Core Qualities and Team Dynamics

Participar

Sobre

Working in trainer teams involves more than combining individual skills.

Each team develops its own “culture” shaped by the attitudes, behaviours and interactions of its members. Often, what strengthens a team can also become a source of tension when overused or misunderstood.

This activity invites you to explore your team’s core qualities and how they relate to potential challenges and team dynamics. Based on the Core Quality Quadrant approach, you will reflect on strengths, pitfalls, challenges and reactions that emerge in teamwork. The aim is not to reach agreement, but to better understand differences and use them as a resource for cooperation.

By becoming more aware of how individual and collective qualities interact, you can strengthen collaboration, improve communication, and develop more balanced and effective teamwork practices.

By completing this activity, you will be able to:
  • Reflect on the strengths and qualities present in your trainer team
  • Identify how these qualities may turn into challenges or tensions
  • Recognise differences in attitudes and approaches within the team
  • Explore how to use diversity as a resource for more effective cooperation

Watch the video, which explains how to apply the Core Quality Quadrant to guide your reflection and team discussions.

Step 1

Individually reflect on the teamwork experiences and identify key qualities that characterise you. These qualities can be understood as attitudes that influence collaboration, communication and decision-making in teamwork situations.

Step 2

When meeting as a team, share the qualities you identified and discuss how compatible and complementary you are. Give particular attention to qualities that may lead to disagreements, tensions, and conflicts, as these often reveal important insights into team dynamics.
Through this process, you will analyse how team members influence each other, how misunderstandings or tensions may emerge, and how greater awareness can support more effective collaboration.
Select a few key qualities and explore them using the Core Qualities Quadrant logic. For each quality, reflect on how it can become a “pitfall” when overused, what complementary “challenge” could balance it, and what “allergy” or tension might arise in relation to other team members.

At the end of the activity, reflect together on the overall learning experience, what they discovered about the team, and how this awareness can be applied in their future work as trainers.

Go to the badge and submit evidence from your reflection on team qualities and dynamics.

The Awero organisation created this educational resource and activity for the Erasmus+ Accreditation training for trainers.

This activity supports trainers’ competence development in the Cooperating successfully in teams area. Activity content and badge-issuing criteria aligned with the European Training Strategy (ETS) competence model for trainers working internationally. In particular:
  • Being aware of the team processes and how they affect the team’s effectiveness;
  • Learning with and from others;
  • Managing disagreements constructively.

Through this process, the badge earner developed awareness of how strengths can become challenges, then pushed to extremes, recognised differences within the team, and identified ways to use diversity as a resource for more effective cooperation.
